History

Bangladesh is a nation known for its beautiful greenery, wildlife and friendly and diverse people. This country was built on the backs of passionate men and women, with some making the ultimate sacrifice in order for our great nation to become what it is today. Bengali men and women are strong willed, hard working and known to be friendly people. The national animal of Bangladesh is the Bengal Tiger, one of the biggest wild cats that can be found in the rich jungles of Bangladesh and is recognised for its fierce looks and sheer power.

Bangladesh was made an official country and proudly declared its independence in 1971 thanks to Sheickh Mujibur Rahman, a freedom fighter and then Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. Formerly known as East Pakistan, the people of Bangladesh fought against the adversity they were faced with out of pure love for their mother tongue and culture. Their main motivation was to be freed from the chains of genocide they were facing from Pakistan, whose government and army committed many offences towards those living in what was formerly known as East Pakistan.

1,222 intellectuals have officially been recognised as martyrs, who made the ultimate sacrifice in order to secure the future for Bangladesh and its people. Approximately 3 million people died for this cause additionally, showcasing the wrongdoings and brute force the Pakistan army used in the bloody war for our sacred piece of land. 102,458 freedom fighters fought for Bangladesh, showing that the people of this great nation are resilient, resourceful, and have a strong will and passion.
